Yesterday our Grades 4 to 6 Dragons had the chance to learn the sport of Cricket alongside some amazing coaches from the Ontario Schools Cricket Association (OSCA) in Brampton!  All of our students were completely engaged in learning a sport that is not too familiar in Canada, especially at the elementary school level.  Our Trillium Dragons were able to be bowlers, wicket-keepers and batters.  They had so much fun trying out the new equipment and participating in an exhibition game!

The sport of cricket started in the late 16th century. It expanded into North America, the West Indies and India in the late 17th century and it became an established sport in England in the 18th century. Cricket developed globally in the 19th and 20th centuries.  Today, cricket is the world’s second most popular spectator sport after football (soccer).

A HUGE thank you goes out to Mrs. Huang for inviting the OSCA to our school and providing our students the opportunity to try cricket! Thank you also to our amazing volunteer Coaches Dayan, Amaresh, and Ravi for an excellent day of fun exercise and learning!  A final appreciation of gratitude goes out to the OSCA for the amazing equipment they donated to us as well as their human expertise and time!  To learn more about the OSCA and the sport of cricket visit https://www.oscaschools.org/
